10 Reasons why you may ask should workplaces consider introducing education and training on menopause...

    1

80% of women in menopause are in work.

    2

Menopausal and midlife women are the fastest growing demographic in workplaces in the UK. Approximately 450,000 women in this cohort are in work in Ireland (CSO,2022)

    3

We know some women have little or mild symptoms. However, research points to 1 in 4 women experiencing challenging and severe symptoms. Without support many of these women have left the workplace. (I have met a number of these women in my own work)

    4

Approximately 90% of women experience menopause between age 45 and 55 years. A lot of these women may be with employers over 25 years and at the peak in their career. They deserve to be supported during this life transition.

    5

Small reasonable adjustments by employers can be life-changing for a woman experiencing moderate to severe symptoms. Increased retention of staff and productivity are emerging from inclusive and pro active workplaces.

    6

Opening conversations in the workplace moving from a closed to an open and inclusive culture on menopause is transforming workplaces who engage.

    7

Having worked as a menopause education consultant for the past three years in Ireland and the UK. I have seen the huge cultural shifts in workplaces bringing menopause training onsite. Women feel seen heard and supported.

    8

Supporting experienced and often valued staff at a time when hormonal change can shake their confidence enables women remain in the workplace well into their 60’s. A win -win for both employers and employees.

    9

Legal tribunals on menopause related issues at work are on the increase across the UK (google menopause tribunals UK) with the most recent case in Ireland being adjudicated on in 2023 (McNally versus The Rotunda Hospital (EDA2148)

    10

Phase three of the Irish Governments MENOPAUSE AWARENESS and EDUCATION CAMPAIGN ( a world first which I contributed to in 2020/21/22) focus is on the workplace. Research is presently in progress by the Minister for Inclusion and diversity s department on how best to roll out this phase of the campaign in Ireland.

Menopause at work...what companies are saying

We invited Breeda to speak to our team as part of our “Live, Learn, Lunch” free quarterly lunchtime series for staff. While the team eats their lunch, they get to listen to and engage with various external supports. More than 50% of the population goes through menopause so as a management team, we thought it was important to provide information and education on this subject matter to ALL staff, not just women! Breeda was a personable presenter who provided us with important insights into peri & menopause. After her initial informative presentation, Breeda then provided ample time for Q&A. What followed was an engaging session where the team both male and female felt comfortable to ask lots of questions and Breeda provided accurate facts and access to further follow-up supports. I sincerely hope we will be the first of many companies to bring Breeda on site to talk to staff about this important topic that affects everyone at some point in their life”

Gabrielle Cummins, CEO.WLR/Beat radio station, Waterford

Breeda delivered a fantastic online wellness workshop to our client (a government office) earlier this year. The focus was on the area of menopause. She offered insights, expertise, tips and suggestions to a mixed group of over 100 participants via webex. Her session received excellent feedback. Breeda has a wonderful facilitation style, she was inclusive and supportive throughout the session. We look forward to working with Breeda in the future.
