“Empowerment starts when women get together”
Melinda Gates 2019.
I have been very fortunate to have spent the past few months working with, and being mentored within the Action lab pilot programme run by Social Entrepreneurs Ireland.
The programme covered business modelling, communications, governance and fundraising. I was also very grateful to have a terrific peer to peer support group of midlife women, mothers and leaders, all stepping up, moving outside their comfort zones, doing amazing work within communities and nationally.
It got me thinking about the invaluable skillsets’ mothers acquire over the years from managing homes, managing families, relationships, often along with a job outside the home. The literature points to leadership potential as one of the gifts of consciously navigating menopause.
Mothers are natural leaders bringing feminine qualities such as compassion, kindness, empathy, intuition, and justice to the table. More mothers need to be guided and encouraged to step up and consider leadership roles as they move through their middle years. The world would benefit greatly as a result.
As Mary Portas(2018)has said “It is never too late to start a whole new exciting chapter of a working life”
Until next time
Stay safe
